Prof: Mercedes Dorrbercker / Fall 2022

Dec 17, 2022

Comments on the course

Participation and attendance are noted and it is 15% of your mark so you need to show up and participate. It can be quite easy participate as they are lots of class discussions. Exam and quizzes are very material heavy and not so much common sense. You need to study, read notes/PowerPoints and pay attention in class in order to pass.

Course Content

The content was pretty interesting with some boring parts. A lot of it gives you another perspective on things such as foods and ads. A lot of ideas were things that most of us already know but was covered in more detail.

Comments on the professor

Mercedes was a really nice prof and she showed that actually cared about her students. Her PowerPoints don't fully align with what she's saying so you have to pay attention to both. She only posts her PowerPoint after she's taught the material meaning that you cannot prepare notes beforehand.

Advice

Exam and Quizzes are mostly on readings so do the readings!!

Prof: Simi Kang / Fall 2021

Comments on the course

Dr. Kang is absolutely incredible. It's so clear that she cares about her students and our wellbeing. She is unbelievably smart, and I have an immense amount of respect for her. We were evaluated on in-person writing assignments (low stakes, not an essay format, she just wanted our ideas to see how we were engaging with the content), and in-class participation. There was no exam for this course.

Course Content

I would HIGHLY recommend anybody and everybody take this course, Dr. Kang talked about privilege, intersectionality, and colonialism.

Advice

A decent amount of reading, but really not too much!
