Comments on the course

Susan says right at the beginning of the course that ENGL 303 will either be your favourite course or one of your most hated. It is the only mandatory course for the Professional Communication minor offered by the English department, and that is because it contains essential information for anyone hoping to work in any kind of communications capacity. Susan is a thorough but strict instructor: she throws a lot of content at you, but nothing that is not necessary to know as a copyeditor. There are something like three or four assignments that involve copyediting a document and applying information learned in the course. I personally loved this course and even bought the new edition of the textbook when it came out, since it is a vital resource for professional copyeditors.

Advice

Do the reading — it is far from optional. The textbook is well written and easy enough to understand, but it can be dense. Attend all lectures, because Susan goes over tons of examples.
