The course is great. It is something that you HAVE to master if you want to work in any field of chemistry. Labs are very easy and the reports are bulky but doable. The math in the reports is easy. The theory behind each instrument that gets asked in the exam is extremely tough, though. And it requires a lot of memorization and overall understanding.
Doable, but hard. You will JUST make it in time to hand in your reports. I made it in 10 minutes, 2 minutes, five minutes, 1 minute, every week to meet the deadline. You WILL work hard, but you WILL be graded highly if you put in the effort. Perfect zeroes are possible for the reports, but you have to do the work. Instructions are printed and very clear. There is no guessing in this course. You know what will be asked, and you know what is required in the lab report. Still, most do very badly because it is rather hard. But don't stress, the curve can still save you. The actual Lab work is extremely easy. Sometimes it requires just pressing a button and taking the data home. But you better know what happened when you pressed that button.
Easily one of my top 5 percent professors. Her classes was the highlight of my week. I am serious. She is extremely smart and has a great sense of humor and her classes are fun to follow. She is just teaching some tough subjects but she already made it as easy as can be.
Prepare ahead for the lab in the first 2-3 weeks, or else you'll be late. You have three weeks off, but you better use them or else you will regret it. PREPARE! Study everything that is on the slides, but focus on all red and underlined concepts. She mostly sticks to them. Learn to differentiate between methods and make yourself a table when you study to keep track. The exams are really hard. I did okay at first, but I was way above the class in the beginning, sinking with them in the end due to the exams being tough, but at least she doesn't try and trick you. It's all straightforward, its just hard to memorize, that's all. Perfect 100s for the labs are possible. Taking pics and making diagrams for your lab goes a long way. I never got below 99 percent for a lab. If you're gonna take this...read more

Useful course if you're planning on participating in any chemistry research but tough. Lecture topics and lab topics don't always align so you need to schedule time to do your own research/reading before every lab to be prepared. There are lots of videos on Youtube for each instrument you study though which are helpful, the textbook isn't required but it is good to have.
Lectures/slides were a little confusing and she was hard to get in contact with, but she gave us all a huge curve and lots of easy extra credit opportunities. Also she's funny in class and told some great anecdotes from her life.
Anything on Dr. Hashami's slides is fair game, so a decent amount of memory is required to get good grades. Not memorizing all the different light sources for different types of spectroscopy tripped a bunch of us up. Not nearly as much memory as other courses like biochem or a&p but good to be aware of anyways. Also, start lab reports as early as possible. You get a ton of data after most labs (bring a flash drive) and certain reports require a lot of data processing/analysis.
