My favorite course this semester. Very engaging and I learned a lot. Helped me to improve my Spanish, too.
Covers a variety of topics in latin american history through the lens of art, films, documentaries, music, novels and short stories. 2 exams and several homework assignments. Lots of assigned readings (assigned books are available at the library) and a few assigned films/documentaries.
Great professor, really cares about his students and tries his best to help them succeed. Fun and engaging lectures. Students got a pass to skip the last several classes by attending a Chicano art exhibit in Fort Worth, so that was cool. Lecture notes and PPTs are not available on canvas, so attendance is mandatory and if you miss any classes you should reach out for help catching up.
Class is taught entirely in Spanish; nearly all students are native speakers. Non-native speakers will have to work a bit harder. No textbook so pay attention during lectures and take good notes. Exams are short-answer Spanish only so make sure you have a good grasp of the material.
