The class was a bit hard for me personally partly because it didn’t interest me so I found it hard making connections and maintaining focus. The exams were also hard for me, but the quizzes were easy simply because they were open book (thru lockdown browser) and a lot of the questions came from the chapter quizzes on OpenStax. Even though there’s no required textbook, I would HIGHLY recommend using the MicroBio book provided through OpenStax (it’s free). That’s where majority of the questions come from.
He provides lecture videos in case you were to miss lecture or just need another run through. He also has TAs, though I found going to an actual tutor a bit more helpful than the TAs.
Professor is awesome. He brings a lot of energy to the class and that’s the only thing that keeps me from falling asleep. He knows what he’s talking about and he’s very engaging, though he talks very fast, so try to keep up.
In this class I did A LOT of memorizing than I expected. You will need to understand too, but I think memorizing would’ve taken my grade a lot farther. 1. Go to office hours, especially after an exam because you’re not allowed to view what you got wrong. There you can see what you got wrong and ask questions. 2. I definitely should’ve studied more on where the content was denser. As you go through the online textbook, you’ll see where the content is heavier compared to other chapters. 3. I should’ve taken more detailed notes and studied for them everyday. Days before the exam I tried to cram and ended up stressing myself out. 4. Creating a group to study with.
