Comments on the course

This professor is extremely biased and extremely comfortable in her tenure. I'm tempted to say almost to a point that could be detrimental to the actual learning potential of the students.

Course Content

Russel Kirk's "Roots of American Order" (AKA the cornerstone book of the American Conservative Party), George Washington's favorite play--"Cato," and at some point a brief mention of Frederick Douglass and the fact that slavery happened.

Comments on the professor

Amazing lecturer. She is truly one of the best lecture-based professors I've ever had in over four years of undergrad; however, extremely biased politically and not shy about that (and she makes that obvious from day one). She opened the very first class with very political-opinion-based types of things...which would be totally fine for any class that wasn't a core curriculum class that's supposed to be about American history (in my opinion). It seems like a somewhat irresponsible way to teach a class...what if a student disagrees vehemently? Would she want them to fail class altogether? What is the goal if there is no attempt at persuasion?

Advice

If you aren't leaning towards the right then don't take her class.
