Comments on the course

Great course that teaches you all you need to know about the basics in networks. As useful as it would be for what you'd use it for (app dev, software communication), but can get pretty in-the-weeds with specifics that won't really apply to much outside of Comp-Sci theory. The class assignments can be extremely challenging, especially given the relative lax-ness of previous CSE courses up to this point, but Dr. Young is a fantastic teacher and looks forward to helping students outside of class if needed.

Course Content

Lots about the very basics and backend of computer communication over networks.

Comments on the professor

Very happy to help. Keeps things interesting and adjusts his class to his students' struggle and requests. Presentations are informative and well-planned and have good humor. Fair grading and willing to discuss grades as well.

Advice

Learn at least a little Java or C++ to get comfortable, as you'll need some familiarity to do the programming assignments. Get familiar with socket programming. Don't feel afraid to capitalize on Dr. Young's office hours. If in doubt of any of the course material, go to him because you will likely regret it come the exam/programming assignment.
