Comments on the course

This was a hard class because Professor Cartier has really difficult exams. His exams throw curveballs and test you on questions you have never really seen before because Cartier doesn't want you to just memorize and regurgitate information, he wants you to use what you know about a topic and apply to different and unfamiliar questions or scenarios you have never seen before.

Comments on the professor

Cartier was an ok professor but not a great professor. We would have short lecture videos before the homework assignments and before the discussion sections, but they were very brief and barely explained concepts in detail, so people often went to the discussion sections very confused since the packets were difficult and the lecture videos barely explained much content.

Advice

Do A LOT of practice problems! Redo all the homework questions, as well as the discussion questions from the packet from discussions. You should also be doing practice problems online on the specific content covered in the class. If you have taken AP Chemistry, I would highly recommend doing AP Chem practice problems and worksheets on the topics. I would also recommend using an organic chemistry tutor to get clarification on the topic. Doing all of these practice problems will help prepare you for the exams since they are very difficult. When you are doing practice problems you are studying ACTIVELY and actually thinking through the problems rather than trying to memorize and regurgitate the information.
